The Democratic Business Alliance of South Hampton Roads connects business leaders, elected officials, non-profit leaders, political activists and a range of other like-minded individuals from around the region to advance the message that Democrats are better for business and the economy. It is the Alliance’s belief that forward-thinking policies of growth, inclusion and strategic public investment have resulted in stronger economies and more sustainable business environments, both in Virginia and nationally. We were thrilled to welcome Travis May & Darrell Redmond to our October DemBiz breakfast for an inspiring conversation about their lives and what they have overcome. Our own DemBiz board member Joel Rubin moderated this discussion:
Darrell Redmond and Travis May understand the dysfunction in too many poor African American families and neighborhoods. It led the Hampton Roads natives (Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, respectively) into lives of crime and a combined 50 years in state prisons, from which they emerged, remarkably, changed men.
